Marquise diamond questions

Does a marquise look bigger than other shapes?

Yes, it looks the biggest for its weight. A 1 ct marquise is about 9.5 to 10.5 mm long; a 1 ct round is about 6.5 mm across.

Do marquise diamonds have a bow tie?

Most do. A light one that moves as the stone turns is normal; a broad, dark one that stays put is what to avoid. Only video shows the difference.

Are the tips of a marquise fragile?

They are its weakest points. V-prongs on both tips, or a bezel, protect them.
