Buy your diamond first, set it later
Many Canadians choose the stone online, then have a jeweller set it. Here's how to do it step by step.
Buying the loose stone first lets you put your budget where it shows: the diamond. Step 1: choose the stone and keep its certificate. Step 2: when it arrives, check the laser inscription with a loupe and photograph it. Step 3: ask your home insurer whether a loose stone is covered until it's set. Step 4: give your jeweller the exact measurements so the setting fits. Step 5: ask the jeweller to note the report number on your receipt. Step 6: get a final appraisal of the finished ring. Jouwell sells loose diamonds only. For a custom ring designed around your stone, see Sawaiia.com.
