Duties and taxes on a diamond from a US website
The price on a US site is rarely the price you pay. What can be added at your door, and why.
When a diamond crosses the border, three things can be added. The first is sales tax: GST, HST or GST plus QST, depending on your province. The second is the courier's brokerage fee. The third is any customs duty, which depends on where the item was made, not where the store is, and on whether it's a loose stone or a finished ring. Currency conversion and card fees come on top. So "free shipping" from the US can still cost hundreds at the door. Jouwell's price is in Canadian dollars and already includes insured shipping and duties. Sales tax for your province is calculated at checkout, so there's nothing to pay when it arrives.
